Arizona Wildcats Counter Play Progression
GH Counter & Play-action progression off the same scheme.
The Arizona Wildcats had a fun play progression based off their GH Counter scheme against Texas Tech in Week 6.
The base run was GH Counter ran from the sidecar gun, with a pre-snap “flip/trade” motion from the RB. The BSG would pull and kick with the H-back leading through the hole much like traditional counter. See cut-up below:
A Few plays later they followed up with the exact same GH Counter scheme with the RB using the “Trade Motion” again however this time the play was flipped running to the left. The BSG pulled to kick, but the H-back used bluff action to show Counter and then re-route to become a receiver in the flat off play-action. The QB ended up finding the BSY leaking upfield for a first down. See below:
