Iowa's Kaleb Johnson goes off
Iowa Hawkeyes RB Kaleb Johnson had himself a heck of a day vs. in-state rival Iowa State Saturday afternoon after rushing for 187 yards on 25 carries and 2 touchdowns. The bulk of which came on gaping runs of 27 yards (TD), 37 yards, 26 yards and 54 yards respectively. With the help of the offensive line, Johnson remained relatively untouched for the majority of those carries, running through wide open holes that attacked both the interior of the defense and the open c-gaps.
A Glance at the Bixby H.S. Offense
One of the biggest talks of the offseason this past year was centered around the uniqueness, creativity and overall success of the Bixby High School offense. Bixby uses a variety of formations, motions and shifts to run a handful of base concepts with the intention to keep the playbook simple and the defense confused. This chalk talk is intended to take a general overview of their offense in order to show how formations, shifts and motions can be used to disorientate a defense using relatively few base concepts.
Fundamentals: Zone Combo Blocks
In this Chalk Talk, we are discussing the basic terms to know and the key fundamentals to zone blocking combinations. A good zone blocking scheme has the answer for any multitude of problems a defense can present on any given play. The point is that no matter where a defense may align or end up throughout the duration of a zone run play, there will in theory be an offensive lineman there to block them.
Linebacker Gap Fits vs Split Zone
Split Zone has become a staple in many offenses ranging from youth to professional football. The main issues presented when defending against any run scheme is maintaining Gap Integrity throughout the duration of the play
Single Back Power
Today’s modern offenses often come with modern challenges, one of which may be finding creative ways to incorporate downhill, “old school”, smash-mouth football into a spread offense. Other times, there may be personnel hurdles that must be overcome or (bent-in-your-favor) to get the most out of both your players and the schemes you want to base your offense around. Today, we’re talking about running Single back Power from 11/12 Personnel.

Bill Callahan & The Titans OL
This is a spur of the moment chalk talk I felt compelled to have after watching the film from the Tennessee Titans final preseason game vs. New Orleans. I am thoroughly impressed and giddy about the Tennessee Titans offensive line play.
